Heroin, The Velvet Underground
"I listened to this every morning before setting off to college to face another day of A levels. I didn’t want to be there and I didn’t know anyone. Somehow this song got me through."

"Music When the Lights Go Out”, The libertines-
“ i listened to this all the time when i was working up the courage
to break up with my first boyfriend. there's only a select group of
songs that are narrated from the perspective of the person
doing the breaking up, which can be just as emotionally-fraught
a position. because there's still longing for the other person,
even if you're about to dump him. or especially because you are. “

More about the The Longing Archive

A project started during Fox’s residency at the National Glass Centre, Sunderland, in 2009, The Longing Archive is an ongoing art project that explores notions of longing through interaction with individuals, communities and sub-cultural groups. The archive operates as a depository for unwanted love letters, love tokens and their narratives. Examining the differing measures employed to communicate and encode the emotional spectrum of longing, and to explore its contemporary relevance to humanity, the archive provides a key to the symbolic codes of courtship, rejection, loss and desire. Longing, whether collective or individual, represents many things: inconsolable ache, disappointment, fear, distance, but it also represents the possibility of fulfillment, of hope, of love.
